Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson

Leading Environmental Groups Launch Ad Campaign in Key States to Support Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, Earthjustice Action, the League of Conservation Voters, and the Sierra Club launched a digital ad campaign in support of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. When confirmed, Judge Jackson will make history as the first Black woman to serve on the Court in its 233 year history.

The first ad buy will target Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ), Mark Kelly (D-AZ), Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Rev. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Susan Collins (R-ME), Rob Portman (R-OH), Pat Toomey (R-PA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Tim Scott (R-SC), and Ron Johnson (R-WI).

“If you care about ensuring access to clean air and clean water, protecting our wild spaces, and tackling the climate crisis, you must care about the judges who interpret and enforce our environmental laws,” said Earthjustice Action Executive Director Marjorie Mulhall. “Judge Jackson brings the stellar qualifications, fact-based reasoning, and lived experiences we need in a Supreme Court Justice. Our courts matter, and we urge these Senators to look at Judge Jackson’s exemplary record and confirm her as quickly as possible.”

“Judge Jackson’s confirmation would bring invaluable, long overdue perspective as both the first Black woman and the first public defender ever to serve on our highest court,” said LCV Advocacy Director for Judiciary & Democracy Doug Lindner. “We need a Supreme Court Justice who respects the laws that protect our democracy and the health of our communities, including the air we breathe and the water we drink. It’s clear from Judge Jackson’s distinguished record on the bench, as Vice Chair of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and as a federal public defender that she is a jurist of tremendous integrity, skill, and understanding who will serve the people, not corporate polluters.”

“The American people need a Supreme Court that is composed of justices that are fair, even-handed, and thoughtful, recognize the government’s obligation to protect public health and the environment, protect the public’s right to access the courts to hold government and industries accountable, and clearly distinguish between facts and politics,” said Sierra Club Democracy Program Director Courtney Hight. “Judge Jackson’s record speaks for itself and it is clear that as a Justice, she will ensure equal justice for every single one of us, uphold the values of our Constitution and keep faith with the letter and spirit of the nation’s bedrock climate and environmental laws. We call on the Senate to confirm Judge Jackson without delay.”
