Los Angeles Mayoral Candidate Questionnaire

Angelenos have a right to clean air, clean water, and a healthy environment. Earthjustice Action, a 501(c)(4) organization, protects public health, advances affordable clean energy, and moves communities away from toxic fossil fuels by defending and shaping environmental laws and policies. The leaders who set, implement, and enforce those policies affect people’s everyday lives.

That’s where the next mayor of Los Angeles comes in.

As chief executive of the nation’s second-most populous city — and California’s largest — the mayor can shape policy through legislation, executive orders, appointments, and negotiations with county and state governments. These decisions affect the health and quality of life for millions and can set a standard for California and the nation.

Emissions from L.A. Metro buses, home appliances, industrial facilities, the Port of Los Angeles, and other sources within city limits contribute to global warming and air pollution, causing serious, chronic health problems for Angelenos.

That is why we asked the candidates how they would tackle emissions, improve air quality, and protect public health in their city.

At Earthjustice Action, we envision a Los Angeles where you can see the skyline and the mountains without a brown film of smog over the city. A Los Angeles with non-polluting trucks and buses on our roads, and modern appliances in homes that won’t fill our kitchens with grimy air pollution. A Los Angeles with a brighter and more breathable future.

Read the responses to our questionnaire and decide which mayoral candidate will help Los Angeles achieve those goals:
