Tell Congress: Don’t shield Big Oil from climate accountability

Republicans in Congress are advancing a bill that would permanently shield the fossil fuel industry from being held accountable for their role in the climate crisis. The Stop Climate Shakedowns Act is a brazen attempt to put politics and profits over public health, justice, and sound science. 

This is one of the broadest immunity bills for fossil fuel companies that we’ve ever seen. It would: 

-Dismiss all pending lawsuits against fossil fuel companies
-Bar future ones against any entity in their supply chain
-Eliminate state policies and programs currently working to regulate greenhouse gas emissions
-Effectively close the courthouse doors to those harmed the most by pollution 

We cannot let these industries off the hook for putting our planet and public health at risk to turn a profit. Write to your members of Congress today and demand they reject the Stop Climate Shakedowns Act. 

The bill would also give the federal government “exclusive jurisdiction” over greenhouse gas emissions and their regulation. With a Republican majority in the House and Senate, a conservative majority in the Supreme Court, and a notoriously anti-environment administration in the White House, the federal government is one of the last entities that should be setting greenhouse gas policies right now.
