What's At Stake
The Senate permitting bill would threaten our bedrock environmental laws and unleash Trump’s plans to drill, mine, log, and give away whatever serves industry’s interests.
We cannot let this bill pass if we want to protect our planet and public health. Write to your members of Congress today and demand they reject this Senate permitting bill and fight for legislation that protects our communities, not that sacrifices them to make it easier for industry to turn a profit.
While this bill does mark a genuine policy breakthrough on transmission and modernization of our electric grid, it asks far too high a price for progress that is in no way guaranteed, especially with a president who has attacked clean energy projects and the rule of law at every turn.
Among other things, the bill threatens:
-Clean water protections
-Endangered species
-State and Tribal sovereignty
-Public lands, including historically, culturally, and spiritually significant places
-Our right to hold polluters accountable in court
To make matters worse, the bill would fast-track the development of data centers on public lands, as well as the polluting gas infrastructure needed to power them. Once these projects are approved, they would be nearly impossible to stop.
Trump and his allies are already eviscerating environmental protections and weakening standards for polluting industries. Don’t let Congress use this legislation as a chance to help him. Demand they reject the Senate permitting bill.
