Don’t let House Republicans prevent state and local energy decisions that lower our costs

Energy bills are on the rise, but congressional Republicans are once again proving that their priorities lie with boosting fossil fuel industry profits, not decreasing the cost of living for their constituents. Soon, the House is scheduled to vote on the Energy Choice Act, a bill that would override state and local government energy policies that have been proven to lower costs and protect public safety. 

For example, the bill would restrict our state and local governments’ ability to adopt policies that support cleaner, cheaper energy sources; address climate change; and ensure public safety.  These are the kinds of public protections that ensure your electrical wiring won’t start a fire when you turn on the lights, your roof won’t collapse when installing solar panels, or homes with gas pipes or heating oil tanks are protected from catastrophic leaks. The Energy Choice Act could threaten these protections as well as block actions to minimize energy waste and improve electric grid efficiency, driving up energy costs for families.   

Write to your representative today and tell them to oppose the Energy Choice Act.
