Earthjustice Action Statement on Senate Passage of Budget Reconciliation Bill

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, the U.S. Senate passed President Trump’s budget reconciliation bill. Following the vote, Earthjustice Action Vice President of Policy and Legislation Raúl García issued the following statement:

“Senate Republicans ignored public outcry from their own constituents and passed an unpopular bill that will devastate our public lands and waters, sacrifice vulnerable communities, and stifle clean energy development. All of us will pay the enormous price of higher energy prices and increasing health harms and costs while their wealthy donors and corporate polluters reap the benefits of plundering our natural resources and hamstringing our clean energy transition.

“The American public will feel these consequences in very real ways for generations. Powerful industries now have more unfettered access to drill, mine, and log our iconic public lands. Billions of dollars in transformative investments and hundreds of thousands of clean energy jobs will disappear. We’ll have more planet-warming emissions and more pollution without investments in the critical technologies needed to mitigate climate change. When we consider the unrelenting Trump attacks on the rule of law and our environment, it is easy to see that Republicans are complicit in the harms that will follow. We will make sure voters know who is responsible next Election Day.”
