Don’t let Congress give away public lands to dirty mining companies!

What's At Stake

The Mining Regulatorily Clarity Act (MRCA) would open more of our public lands to dirty mining operations, and the House of Representatives is set to vote on it soon. We need you to act now and urge your representative to vote no on this bill.

Most mining on public lands in the U.S. is governed by outdated mining laws and regulations that fail to provide sufficient protections for our shared public lands and the communities that call them home. More than a century of reckless mining has poisoned our air, waters, and lands — and has disproportionately impacted Indigenous communities. We should be addressing the shortcomings of current laws and regulations, but instead, Congress is considering taking our mining laws backwards by passing the MRCA.

If signed into law, this legislation would:

-Make it easier for mining companies to dump more toxic waste on public lands
Prioritize mining-related activities, like building roads and pipelines to mines, over any other use of public land, including recreation or renewable energy development
Potentially allow mining companies to “claim” public lands without even having to prove that there are valuable minerals to mine

We can, and must, avoid perpetuating the harms of the mining industry by updating our mining standards and preventing bad actors from destroying our drinking water and lands. The Trump administration and its Congressional allies want to reward these companies, but we won’t let them. Instead, we will work to update our outdated laws and regulations and meet the demand for critical minerals in the most sustainable way possible: through responsible recycling, reusing, and extending the life of materials and products we already have.

We need you to urge your representatives to reject the Mining Regulatory Clarity Act, which would make it easier for mining companies to recklessly pollute and destroy our public lands.
