Earthjustice Action Statement on Republicans Voting to Cut Critical Funding

WASHINGTON, DC—Tonight, the U.S. House of Representatives voted on a bill containing deep cuts to non-defense spending—including environmental programs. After the vote, Earthjustice Action Vice President of Policy and Legislation Raúl García issued the following statement:

“Republicans refuse to stand up to President Trump. They are complicit in his attempts to devastate social safety net programs and environmental protections while increasing energy costs and health burdens for people all over the country. They continue to write blank checks for an administration that prioritizes the interests of wealthy polluters over working families. Congress possesses independent powers to check a reckless and harmful presidential action, but Republicans have shamefully abdicated that responsibility in favor of doing Trump’s bidding. Congress needs to do its job and pass a government funding bill in the best interest of the people, not Donald Trump.”
