Earthjustice Action Statement on Markup of House Farm Bill

WASHINGTON, DC—This week, the House Agriculture Committee held a markup on the Republican’s recently-released Farm Bill. The Republican proposal insulates pesticide manufacturers from accountability, weakens protections for endangered species and forests, and defunds proven conservation solutions that lower greenhouse gas emissions.

After members voted to move the bill forward, Earthjustice Action Vice President of Policy and Legislation Raúl García issued the following statement:

“House Republicans have once again failed to deliver a Farm bill that has a chance of becoming law, hijacking a traditionally bipartisan process to further extreme positions. Instead of crafting legislation to uplift farmers, responsibly manage our natural resources, and protect our food supply, they included brazen corporate giveaways to shield pesticide manufactures from any liability when they recklessly poison our families and communities. We urge Congress to reject this Farm Bill that does nothing to protect the health, safety, and economic security of farmers and families.”
