Earthjustice Action Response to State of the Union Address

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—Earthjustice Action President Abigail Dillen issued the following statement after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address: 

“In his State of the Union address, President Trump failed to take responsibility for his disastrous environmental policies and address the pain and economic stress plaguing American families. His administration’s lawless agenda and attacks on clean energy have saddled us with dirtier air, contaminated water, and skyrocketing energy bills. With respect to data centers and rising energy costs, a passing reference to a notional “ratepayer protection pledge” was typical of a speech devoid of any real plans to make our lives better.  

“His words should alarm everyone. He outlined radical plans for barring access to the ballot box in upcoming elections and implied that he would not be bound by the Supreme Court. Over and over again, he projected a violent consolidation of power that consigns people’s rights to the whims of the White House. Tonight’s spectacle was a showcase for dismantling our democracy and rule of law.”
