Take Action

Protect our forests before it’s too late!

What's At Stake

The bad news: Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) rammed a last-second amendment into the Wildfire Prevention Act that would eliminate the bedrock Roadless Rule and bar any substantially similar rule from being implemented in the future. Republicans passed the bill, amendment included, out of committee in a party-line vote, sending it to the full Senate.

Repealing the Roadless Rule would put 45 million acres of forests at risk of logging and road development. In the 25 years since it was enacted, the rule has safeguarded wildlife habitats, outdoor exploration opportunities, and clean drinking water sources for millions of Americans.

If this bill passes, the Roadless Rule will be gone for good, and many of our last undeveloped public lands will be at risk. Write to your senators today and demand they reject Senator Lee’s amendment to the Wildfire Prevention Act.

Meanwhile, the Senate is also considering the Fix Our Forests Act (FOFA), a trojan horse bill that would worsen wildfires and remove the ability for communities to have a voice in protecting our public lands.

The good news: Congressional Democrats are fighting back with a bill of their own. The Roadless Area Conservation Act would codify the Roadless Rule and continue protecting these tens of millions of acres of undeveloped lands. Where Senator Lee’s amendment creates another problem, this bill presents a clear solution.

Now is the moment to take action and protect our forests. Tell your senators to reject both FOFA and the anti-Roadless Rule amendment and instead support the Roadless Area Conservation Act.
