Washington D.C. — The House Appropriations Committee completed the mark-up of the Fiscal Year 2027 bill for the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies yesterday.
The Republican-led House funding bill would hamper the federal government’s capacity to regulate pollution across the country, slash funding for national parks, advance mining in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, burden offshore wind development with punitive fees, and more. The bill also includes harmful riders that would undermine efforts to protect endangered species, hand over public lands to polluting interests, cut sorely needed drinking water and wastewater infrastructure across the country, and undermine efforts to address rampant forever chemicals threatening our communities.
In response, Earthjustice Action Legislative Director for Lands, Wildlife, and Oceans Addie Haughey issued the following statement:
“Republicans are following the Trump administration’s lead to take the country back to a time of toxic air and unsafe water and to sell out our public lands. They propose restricting domestic clean energy development while millions of people are struggling to afford to keep the lights on. House Republicans are calling this the ‘practical stewardship’ of government funds, but we know the truth. Our health is at risk. Our wallets are strained. Our communities deserve better.”
