WASHINGTON, D.C. — Yesterday, House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (R-MO-6) and Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA-2) unveiled the text of the House Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill. This draft bill sets policies and funding levels for highways, transit, rail, and other transportation infrastructure over five years. Congress last reauthorized surface transportation programs as part of the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

After the release of the text, Earthjustice Action Senior Legislative Representative Anne Clement issued the following statement:

“We need a cleaner, healthier, and more affordable transportation future. While we appreciate bipartisan interest in our nation’s transportation infrastructure, the House Surface Transportation Reauthorization Bill fails to achieve this vision. It falls short on investing in the vehicles and infrastructure we need to curb climate and air pollution that harms our lungs and planet. It also undercuts transportation affordability, including by imposing a new annual fee on drivers choosing electric vehicles. We look forward to working with Congress on a surface transportation bill that people deserve.”
