Fight for Proper Permitting Reform

What's At Stake

We need your help to hold Congress accountable as they consider so-called ‘permitting reform’ legislation. Republicans and the fossil fuel interests supporting them are using this as an opportunity to try and weaken — if not outright eliminate — provisions of popular laws like the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and National Historic Preservation Act. They want to make it easier for polluting industries to secure permits for harmful projects by dismantling the public’s ability to provide input and hold corporations accountable in court. 

On the other hand, well-meaning Democrats are calling for permitting reform to unleash our clean energy potential. They want to relax regulations and cut red tape to demonstrate that the government can still build big things and tackle our most pressing challenges, like climate change. 

We can and should create expedited approvals for projects with obvious environmental benefits, but we need strong environmental protections to ensure they don’t damage our clean air, clean water, and public health. We can’t discard critical these in the name of expediency. 

Help us fight for permitting reform done the right way. Trump is already eviscerating environmental protections and weakening standards for polluting industries. Don’t let Congress use permitting legislation as a chance to help him.
