Demand Congress Negotiate in Bipartisan Fashion to Reopen the Federal Government

What's At Stake

The federal government is in a full shutdown, all because Republican leadership refused to work with Democrats to pass bipartisan funding legislation. They spent months ramming their hyper-partisan big, ugly bill through Congress and neglected their most basic function: working to fund the government. In fact, Republicans are looking to capitalize on this crisis at our expense. Everyday Americans are paying the price for their desire to put politics and personal interests over people.

Congress must negotiate bipartisan solutions to fund the federal government. Republicans have allowed funding to lapse, causing a shutdown that is harming the health and livelihoods of American families. In fact, Republicans are attempting to capitalize on this national crisis to advance their pro-polluter political agenda. Trump’s planned mass firings would gut essential services — including those that forecast extreme weather and provide emergency relief as we move into the peak of hurricane season. And they’re doing all of this while refusing to negotiate to save peoples’ healthcare… but conveniently retaining staff to give oil and gas industries the permits they need to pollute.

Congressional Republicans have a duty to protect congressional funding from the political whims of the White House. Congress has the power to appropriate funds, but President Trump is illegally blocking and rescinding previously approved funds for environmental grant programs, clean energy, and other programs that benefit our communities. Republicans must reassert Congress’ independence, reverse the illegal funding cuts made by DOGE, and work with Democrats to pass bipartisan funding legislation.

We’re out of time to stop the shutdown, but we can still prevent the worst of its effects from taking hold. While our team is on the ground on Capitol Hill, we need you to make members of Congress listen to those who matter most: their constituents.
